A friend died today.

He passed away early in the morning. In his sleep I hope.

One moment there, the next... Not.

It occurred to me that life is so bittersweet. We experience so much and suddenly it stops.

The Universe likes structures. It's really keen on crystals. Self aligned lattices of atoms.

I hope that time is like that.

We exist on the edge of time. Our 'present' is time crystallising, the past is locked in place.

Forever.

At some point we may view the crystal of time and watch our past, rose coloured. Like our memories of friends.

This is really beautiful, Jeff. I too am sorry for your loss and I like the sense of optimism that flows through the drabble, despite the underlying sad overtones.

I too am sorry for your loss... but the drabble is beautiful. Charged with emotion and also a great lesson that life is entirely too short.
