That was the night we sang. The valley echoed with our voices, the trees swayed to our melody, and the fires that engulfed our homes raged on. They tried to destroy us, to break us down and watch us mourn, but we refused. Our song angered them, and all around us we could hear their steel, feel their gaze, but still, we sang. We were cut down one by one, still, the song continued, until the only voice left was mine. I was a child then, and I trembled as they came upon me, but my voice did not falter.
