A knight's tale

by Peter Henderson

The knife had been thrown as straight as a die.
The knight saw it as a glint in his eye.
His shield low as it passed it bye.
It hit on armour, made a noise and then bounced.
The knight aimed horse at the sender who was about to get trounced.
But the jig was played when a lance was lifted up.
And it slid between knight's plates with spurting blood to fill a cup.
The knight was pierced from heart to back.
But in death's dealing move he made one last hack.
The sender's head separated with aweful crack.
