The Drinks of the South

She drilled into the ground.

Now for a drink!
Contentedly she sighed. But in her memory the old proverb sounded:
"South Carolina drinks are the best."

Well, this needed proof.
She took another sip and then - rather languidly - started out, southwards.

She passed the huge plane, scaled the gently ascending slope of Mound Pubis, ambled down its leeward slopes, arriving at the austral brake.

Again she started to bore into the soil.
Done.
Now another drink.

Quaffing off the sweet liquid, she missed the huge thing that fell from the sky.

CLAP!

"Gotcha!", Carolina exulted, wiping off the dead midge.

I wouldn't consider it very special. I've got a friend who is fluent in 12 languages and rather good in another 9.
I believe that musical people are learning languages more easily, getting their orientation from the melody. My oldest daughter is fluent in most of the languages I mentioned above (except for Russian/Czech).

Well, I am rather fluent in German, English, Norwegian, Russian, but I do speak a bit of French, Spanish, Czech, Italian.
And I do understand a tiny bit of Japanese, don't speak much of it, though.
I love language(s).

Dear L. Michelle,
would you prefer "gnat" or "mosquito"?
"Midge" was the first thing to enter my brain, as it's so similar to the norwegian "mygg" and the german "Mücke"...

Hehe, thanks.
To be honest, it's a drabbled adaptation of my older short story "North and South", wherein two fleas meet each other, one coming from North Carolina, the other from South Carolina .....
