This was a day of fanfare and finery. Months of anticipation and careful planning, from mountains of marigolds to one hundred dishes of curries and tandoori. Even the horses' hooves had been diligently polished, their manes combed and braided with ribbons. It was rumored the streets between the groom's house and the future bride had been broomed by relatives the night before. Now the procession had begun with music and jubilation. Guns were fired. The street was a blur of colour and commotion. Birds flew from the trees skyward. The groom slumped over his horse, fell, and everyone rushed forward.

Wow, how dramatic! I love the way you've built the sense of ceremony which then is dealt a savage blow. A great drabble, D.M. ... and a true story.

Truly fateful.
I have seen once, how a person got trampled to death by a mass assembly of people.
Horrific.
But I agree with Neville. Very good one.

Oh my! On what's supposed to be a joyous day, what an awful thing to happen. Great drabble, D.M.

Thank you all. (Apparently the gunfire is against the law but it still goes on...)
