" You know you could die drinking from those," she informed her mother.
"That is lead. Lead crystal. A whole generation poisoning itself. Look at toxic pots and dementia."
Inside the grandmother's china cabinet rows of upside down glasses captured the color of their clothing.
"No one wants it. Give it away."
"But it's Waterford...."
"Who cares anymore? It's out of fashion. I don't want it."
The house was almost empty. The stemware was individually wrapped in newspaper and placed in a box for charity.
The next morning it was raining; a man quickly tossed the box into a truck.

    Interesting. I heard about how lead leaked out of lead crystal over time on BBC Radio 4 last week. Suddenly, the port and sherry in my crystal decanters doesn't seem like a good idea! (Think I'll fill them with coloured water for show purposes only.) Thanks D.M., I enjoyed this drabble.

    Lives saved and memories shattered. Too bad, they make great decorative pieces, even if not functional.
