This is the struggle, to remain modest in an immodest world. Here at the beach where sand and sea merge, where child laughter soars with the gulls and moats fill with water around sandcastles, and go dry. He glares at the women displaying their flesh in string bikinis, averts his eyes. This is what's wrong with the world. His wife and daughters are covered. He applies more
sunscreen to his bare legs. Looking up sees the lifeguards running, his older daughter gasping in the waves. He must stop them. These young men will not dishonor her, must not touch her.

Ooooh! That's scary. Lovely beach hol description - I was there - juxtaposed with a completely different take on things. Strong stuff.

A true story cleverly and touchingly told. Excellent drabble, D.M.

I saw this event on the news. I think you captured it very well. I especially like the contrast in the two lines about how his wife and daughters are covered, yet his legs are bare.

Thank you! I wanted to play on that double standard.
