Perhaps this is what inspired Dali. It was just like that. One day nothing, the
next day, as if from no where, ants crawling over and under everything within sight, the dirty dishes left on the counter the night before, running madly over
the knives and forks, rimming the morning coffee cups, then found in the bread drawer, the recycling bin, the dog's food dish. It became surreal. There were no melting clocks but the ants rallied quickly over the spot of strawberry jam dripped accidently on the headline of the morning paper. The dog seemed oblivious; she preferred moths.

The memory of this ant attack is clearly persistent. Thanks D.M. for prompting me to research Dali. I worked with an idiot years ago who was asked to dinner with Dali, but turned it down as he had a report to write for our client Mars. I'd have chosen Dali and talked my way out of the report! This excellent drabble deserved more attention.
