The night we would best see Saturn, the moon did not appear, and we craned our necks to scan the whole sky, but nothing shone. So often we have looked up but seen nothing. Even during the day, watching for the eagle nesting on another lake, afraid to look away, and, in that moment, it might pass, too high for a shadow to cross us. In that sky, linked to all our skies, so many things we missed, a plane travelling in the night never reaching its destination, its passengers still up there, their eyes closed, sleeping in our minds.
