Our relationship through the war and after I became a private eye was antagonistic to say the least. But if there was one man on Earth I trusted wholeheartedly, it was Harrigan. And I think he felt the same way. His attitude toward me had softened after I gave up the detective game.
He rose through the ranks very quickly, from beat cop to detective to sergeant all in a few years. Because of his stellar work he jumped from sergeant straight to captain, skipping lieutenant altogether.
Then, after a shake-up in the department, he became deputy police chief...

This is probably a little unbelievable, but I painted myself into a corner in one of the later stories by saying Harrigan had become chief of police, so I had to have him start moving through the ranks pretty quickly. One of the disadvantages of not doing these stories in chronological order.

Well recovered though, Christopher. Harrigan was always portrayed as a sharp cookie so rapid promotion is to have been expected.
