Top 10

by

Someone on Twitter had Top 10 lists of favorite songs by bands. I was having trouble with the Desert Island Discs list that we discussed here, but I figured I could do some Top 10's of certain artists. I'll do the Stones first because that was the first group I saw on Twitter.

The Rolling Stones
1. We Love You
2. 2,000 Light Years From Home
3. Miss You
4. Emotional Rescue
5. Street Fighting Man
6. Citadel
7. Gimme Shelter
8. Honky Tonk Women
9. Play With Fire
10. Far Away Eyes

Let me know what your favorites are.

A good list, however I was never a Stone’s fan. Still no change in that. Here are the 8 of their songs I like. There are others where I like the song, but by other artists. They aren’t included.

    She’s a rainbow
    Angie
    Lady Jane
    Out of time
    Ride on baby
    Stupid girl
    Time is on my side
    You better move on

Wow, I thought everyone loved the Stones. That's a good list too. I'm guessing you have the Aftermath album, since you have three songs on your list from it.

I may do a few more lists, maybe I can get two artists on one next time. I'm thinking of doing Dylan, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd, maybe? I'm still working on that Desert Island Discs one, but that one is a lot harder than I thought it would be.

No, I don’t have any Stones albums... but I really like She’s a rainbow and You better move on. Out of time and Ride on baby I much prefer the versions by Chris Farlowe, whom we saw with The Manfreds, Paul Jones and Alan Price. Farlowe looked like a ghost, but Paul Jones was a really nice bloke when we met them all after the show.

Cool! Man, Alan Price! You can't get much better than that organ solo on "House Of The Rising Sun."

All of the original Animals were top notch.

Mike D’Abo was in the line up too. He’d taken over in Manfred Mann when Paul Jones left to go solo. D’Abo is a very talented musician and even better songwriter. He wrote ‘sad rags and glad rags’ for Chris Farlowe to sing. They all took the piss out of Price because he always looked so bloody miserable. He did too... but he played really well too. A memorable event. One of my best schoolmates played with Eric Burdon. His name is Paul Millns, but you’ll never have heard of him. He’s quite well known in Germany for some reason - bluesy rock fusion (ish). He’s got some stuff online. A good man.
