Classified Ads

by

One nightstand, hardly ever used, one owner who totally neglected it. Could make a nice temporary addition to your bedroom, if you're in between nightstands at the moment. White, but goes with any decor, masculine or feminine, drawers are clean, body is good, legs are nice, sturdy, just needs a little attention.

Recently divorced lady needing to rid herself of the remnants of her past. And this one nightstand would be a good start on getting her life back on track.

If you are interested in this one nightstand contact Nancy, Box 10, c/o this newspaper. Serious inquiries only, please.

I don't know if this one works or not. I wanted to start a new series of classified newspaper ads and this was the first one I thought of. I hope I executed it correctly.

This has made me want to get back to a book I still haven't got around to reading 'The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat.' by Oliver Sacks. Hypothetical sequel 'The Man Who Dated A Nightstand.' ;-)

Lol. I guess you have that slang expression in the UK, a one night stand, meaning a one-time sexual encounter? I didn't think that it might just be an American expression.

This is very good, Christopher; it works well. So much story in a classified ad. Any desperation is beautifully understated. I’m very reassured by the cleanliness of the drawers. This is a woman with standards, but she’s not necessarily too choosy. Whilst maybe it’s going to be part of an ad series, it could be a mini series in its own, as she gets some replies.

    Thanks, Marion.

Thanks, Neville. I never thought about a follow-up to this particular one. Might be something to ponder. I've just needed some prodding lately and the series format gives me something to think about. I need to resurrect the Clocks series. That one always seemed to spark my imagination.

P.s., Neville. I put in about an hour and a half last night working on the new Jake Randolph story. It's early days but it's coming along nicely. I don't know when I'll feel like I have enough in reserve to start posting, though.

Another Jake! That’s great. Post when you can, but try to get a message through to Drew (which I know you’ve done before) because he too is a Jakeophile!

You don’t have to do a follow on to the classified ad one, but it got me thinking about the respondents to the ad and any subsequent one-nighters (😱) ... something I’ve never experienced, but I did meet my wife when we were both rather young (and I’ve been a very good boy since!). It would be a fun series and your imagination could have a field day!

Thanks, Neville. I can try to contact Drew though Goodreads, which is what I did before, but he hasn't been updating that lately so I'm not sure if he's still using it.
