Nelson turned and ran down the sidewalk, pushing people down in his way. I took off after him, hurtling over those lying on the sidewalk cursing the crazy man who'd just knocked them down.

After about a block-and-a-half he ducked into an alley next to a pet store. The doggie in the window barked at me as I went past.
