The Littlest Client #109

by

The taxi dropped me off at Precision Auto Repair to pick up my car, a maroon 1950 Studebaker Starlight Coupe I'd bought two years before. The first new car I'd ever owned. I'd come into a large sum of money thanks to a case involving a woman who'd lost her memory and was in possession of a quarter of a million dollars. Turned out it belonged to a Vegas mobster she was in love with who died. She was so distraught she went back home to her parents and told me to keep the money.

Yeah...I didn't believe it either...

For those in need of a refresher, those events were in Jake's very first story, Murder Is But A Memory.

    Thanks! Think I’ll re-read it!
Btw, Christopher, just finished re-reading The Black Eyed Blonde (Marlowe tribute). Had forgotten the story and so it was as if reading for the first time. I have to say... it is excellent imho!

I remember the brand Studebaker. Was it a classy, high-ticket marque?

They were pretty much in league with the other American car manufacturers of the time like Pontiac and Chrysler but fell out of fashion and were gone by the mid-60s.

But that particular model just looked to me like something Jake would drive.

Just checked it out. Cool car! Especially in maroon. Love the nose cone! Yes, I can envision Jake driving that smart little baby. Great attention to detail, as always, Christopher.

    Thanks, Neville.

Yeah, that maroon one was one of the cars that caught my eye when I Googled "cars from 1950."
