She looked like she was going to cry. Normally when a full-grown dame cries it makes me wanna rip my heart out. If this poor little thing began crying I was liable to start bawling right along side her. I tried to avoid either of us crying.
"Are you the baby in this picture?" I asked.
She nodded, "I think so."
"How old are you, Miss Dolan?"
"Nine," she said.
I continued, "When was the last time you saw your father?"
She got sad again, "S'been a long time."

I had to look Yeames up. When I read the description of the painting and they mentioned the English Civil War I started hearing The Clash in my head.
Thanks for reading, Neville. I'm going to have to post it in smaller chunks than I normally do because I'm not as far into the story as I usually am by the time I start posting. But I made a lot of progress yesterday as I wrote most of the afternoon.

However quickly or slowly it appears, Christopher, I know I’m going to enjoy it.

Yeames’s painting of that name is quite famous over here, with its central character looking overwhelmed by the Parliamentarians.

Thanks.
Yeah, the mood of the painting is rather somber. Beautiful work, though.
