The Littlest Client #1

by

I was in my office on Sunset trying to decide whether to take a nap at my desk or go over to the couch under the window and lie down. The L.A. afternoon was shimmering outside, and the monotonous hum of the traffic was lulling me into a stupor.

Then she appeared at my door. She was blonde, had a pink dress on, and a look in her cobalt eyes that spelled heartache. She stepped in.

Was she a femme fatale? A vixen with a fistful of trouble? No, she couldn't have been more than nine or ten years old...

Well, here it is. The 6th Jake Randolph tale. For those that haven't been around before there were five others.

    Jake Randolph, Private Detective
    The Naked Beat
    Origins
    Bourbon On The Rocks
    Tiki Moon

That's how they were written and posted but they actually bounce around Jake's timeline. This one is set between Jake Randolph, Private Detective and the Naked Beat.

I'm not anywhere near finished with it, though, and the narrative has already twisted from what I have planned. But I needed to start posting it to give me the kick in the shorts to stay with it and finish it.

I'm incredibly rusty, though, so bear with me.

Oh, I should also point out to any new readers that these are period pieces and I don't engage in political correctness, so there may be some words contained in this story that people may find offensive, but are authentic to the times.

    Just a heads up.

Yippee! Jake’s back! And importantly, so is Christopher! Welcome back to you both. And what a cracking start! How to produce a great setup. Christopher is a master.

And for any readers who’ve not read other stories about Jake, I urge you to do so here on Drablr. Just search ‘Jake’ or ‘Jake Randolph’ and up they’ll pop. And in case you were suspicious, I don’t get no commission from Christopher! And Jake, sure he ain’t politically correct, but who was in his time?

Thanks, Neville. This has been the hardest one yet because I'm so out of shape when it comes to writing.

You’ll be fine, Christopher, just as soon as you build momentum! Can’t wait for more! Please?
