The Station #26

by

"There! What did I tell you. Infierno," Andrew said.

"No, señor," the doctor said. "This ticket is for Cielo."

Andrew knew that the ticket had said Infierno. Maybe Father Domingo was right, he thought. Maybe you can change your destination.

The door to the hospital room opened. It was Pam, Andrew's wife. She ran to the bedside.

"I'll let you two talk," the doctor said, exiting quickly.

Andrew looked up, tears in his blurry eyes.

"I'm sorry, Pam. Please forgive me."

"I already have," she said as she gently placed her hand on his forehead.

Yep, Andrew thought. Cielo, indeed.

Well, that was it. It came to me very quickly. I was really inspired by the brilliant writing of a UK show I've been binge watching called Inside No. 9, which I think is one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.

This is a terrific story Christopher and well worthy of Inside No 9. I love it! (Maybe you should send it to Messrs Pemberton and Shearsmith c/o BBC TV or to Kate Daughton, Head of Comedy at the BBC or Commissioning Editor Alex Moody (f not m). You never know... if you don’t try...)

Thanks, Neville. I don't think it's anywhere near the level of writing achieved by Steve and Reese, but I appreciate the kind words. But their writing has really made me reevaluate how you craft a story. I may look into some online writing workshops or look for some books on writing. I've never done that except for a book my niece had called The Writer's Lab, or something like that. I think I'd really like to study writing in-depth rather than just flying by the seat of my pants.

Well to my untrained eye, Christopher, the seat of your pants are pretty damn aerodynamic! 🛩

Thanks, Jamie. Sorry for the late response. Haven't been here recently as much as I would like. I'll blame the pandemic but I think I've just gotten lethargic of late.

You’re not the only one getting lethargic, Christopher. It's another symptom of the whole situation.
