Autocorrect Nightmares #5

by

A text conversation between Troy and his husband Tab...

Troy: Hello, darling. Still on the road.

Tab: Everything going okay?

Troy: Yeah. Should be back home tomorrow. Been passing through where I used to live and saw some old friends. I tell you, I've really missed Vagina.

Tab: You what? Who are these "old friends" huh?

Troy: OMG! I meant Virginia, darling. I used to live in Vagina.

Tab: ?????

Troy: It did it again! Why does it keep saying Vagina?

Tab: Why indeed.

Troy: Okay, just drove out of Vagina.

Tab: You may as well drive back in, cowboy!

Thanks, guys. Hey, have either of you ever watched a UK show called "Benidorm"? They just got the first 5 seasons on BritBox and I just finished watching it. It's a hilarious show.

Yes Christopher, I've seen it and laughed too... but Mrs H controls the controller and I get over-ruled. Benidorm is a resort in Spain that has a reputation for sex, Sangria and sand... although the sand was entirely imported. Originally there had been no beach, at which time there had been no downmarket British tourists there either!

Well, if the real clientele looks anything like the ones on the show it must be rather seedy.

I've started a new series now on BritBox called "Inside No. 9" but I'm not so sure it's my cup of tea. But it does feature one of the main actors from "Benidorm."

I’m watching Inside No 9 now. Some of them are terrific, some are not so, imho (and that of Mrs H). Last night’s one, called Misdirection (Series 5, Episode 4), was good, if a bit gruesome at the start (gruesomeness is often a characteristic of them). The great thing is that as each episode is an entity, you can dip in and out and skip if you don’t like the look of them.

Don’t know if Britbox does this but Channel 4’s ‘The Windsors’ is a laugh. Basically it takes the piss out of our Royal Family. Totally over the top, but chuckleful. Harry Enfield (whom you probably know) plays Prince Charles and the rest of the cast is... well... well cast!

I just checked. No Windsors on BritBox yet but it could be later. They're always adding things.

Yeah, I realized when the second episode of Inside No. 9 started that it was an anthology series not a continuing narrative so I'll stick with it for a bit. This very first episode called "Sardines" reminded me of a modern day episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

Not sure of I’ve mentioned this before, but if it’s on Britbox already, the BBC serial in three series of six 30 minute episodes each, called ‘Mum’ (you’d say Mom, I guess), is terrific. It’s an excruciating and hugely engaging tale of a woman/family coming to terms with the death of her husband. It’s funny throughout, but not always rib-crunching belly laughs. The casting is immaculate and essentially it’s a post-love love story. The finale is terrific; I wish I’d written it. Ones attitudes to the characters, who are quite extreme, morph as the series progresses. I love it and watch the last episode over and over

Re my last comment, Christopher, I think that the real test of a successful serial comedy is the ending. ‘Witless’, if it’s on Britbox, is brilliant, mixing dark and light, and has a terrific ending, as does Fleabag but for different reasons.

No Witless, but they do have Mum. I'll check it out when I'm done with Inside No. 9. I really do like that show after all. There was only one called "The Harrowing" (about a demon) that I didn't like so far, and I'm well into the second series of it. But it's very cleverly written, with plot twists and surprise endings. Great show, I think.

I just couldn't get into Fleabag. I tried but it wasn't my thing.
