"What should I do, Jim?"
Harrigan looked up at the puffy white clouds as they ambled across the azure sky. He took a drink of what looked like tea that was sitting on a table beside his chair. There was a book on the table: Derek Slade, Private Eye.
"Jake, I think your best option's to be honest with both women and let the chips fall where they may. But you already knew that, didn't you?"
I nodded, "Just needed to hear it from someone else."
"If I don't hear from you again I'll know they didn't take it well!"

I think I'm going to make Derek Slade a running thing in these stories now. He was the prototype for Jake, after all. But I think I've gotten a little better handle on noir fiction since I created Derek.

That sounds like a good idea, Christopher. A tribute. Nice!

Thanks. Maybe in a future story I'll have him meet the actor who plays Derek in the movie version of the novel. That might be fun. Maybe he'd be hired to protect the actor, who's run afoul of some unsavory characters or something like that.
Hey, that's not a bad idea.

Yeah, a great idea. Go for it!

Well, I've gotta finish this one first! I only have a bit more to write to finish it, though.

Fair enough! But I’m expecting a girl trouble showdown before the end, with Jake the double loser!🤕

I just finished writing it a few minutes ago. I'm going to take a little break before I start writing the next Jake tale. I've already got some ideas.

Thanks, Drew.
