"How exactly am I supposed to get you proof?" she asked as she took another sip of coffee.
"I need to know all the construction sites that my brother Phil worked on over the past few years. That's all you have to do. I'll take it from there and follow up. I think my brother found out something they didn't want him to know and they killed him."
She shook her head, "You keep saying 'they.' Who are you referring to?"
I had to tread carefully. "I'm not sure. But I believe someone in your company is bribing city officials."

200? Man, this one has gone fast and has went on a lot longer than I originally intended. It was supposed to be a short story. Apparently Jake doesn't like short stories because I've tried it before and it didn't stay short then either.

Congratulations Christopher. 200 is terrific, but ole Jakey would expect no less... in fact a whole lots more!🤞

Thanks, guys. I guess I should give up on the idea of a short story for Jake. I always think about Raymond Chandler, who wrote some short Philip Marlowe stories for those pulp magazines. I read one called "Wrong Pigeon" and I wanted to try and write a short one but it just doesn't seem possible. I make them too involved.
