Tiki Moon #94

Deborah sighed as she drew random patterns on my chest with her index finger.

“Jake, how old are you?” she asked as she put her palm down flat and started running it over the hair on my chest.

"Twenty-seven," I said as I fumbled at the nightstand for a packet of smokes.

She chuckled, "You're a year younger than my husband and you're 10 times the man he is. And not just in bed, either. It's the whole way you carry yourself."

I lit the cigarette, took a puff and exhaled. The smoke blew northward like a storm cloud...

It seems out of place for Jake to be that young, but considering I said in an earlier story that he was 23 when the war ended in '45, that would make him 27 in '49.

I was surprised as I seen him as very late 30s/early 40s in my mind’s eye, but then as we live longer these days, and with WW2 and all that, a 27 year old would maybe have seemed more mature than those of today.

Well, since I've been bouncing around Jake's timeline, he was that age in some of them. In the Beatnik story he would've been 37. And the contemporary part of the one that flashbacked to his first case he was about 40.

Ah, yes! I hadn’t thought of that, or done the year maths!

Well, it's a bit confusing considering they haven't been chronological. I had to go back to the other stories to see how old I said he was in those and then figure out how old he'd be in 1949.

It might be fun to do like Blackadder and bounce around and write some about his ancestors and also his descendants in the future.

Thanks, Drew. I'll seriously think about that.
