They're out there, waiting for me. They're sitting in a car across the street from my apartment. I'm carefully peering down through the blind at them. How could they have found me? It's been so long. I've moved so many times.
I knew I shouldn't have done it, but I was young and it seemed like a good deal at the time. But it was like I was making a deal with the Devil. I thought these people faded away long ago. But I was wrong.
There's no doubt: the Columbia House Record Club has finally caught up with me...

I don't know if my friends across the pond had that, but they used to offer 12 albums or cassettes (or later CD's) for a penny and then you spent the rest of your life trying to buy the required amount of albums as part of the deal. Not to mention the "Selection Of The Month" where if you didn't send the card back to them in time they would automatically send you the greatest hits of Zamfir, Master Of The Pan Flute.

This started out as a tweet I did a few years ago. I thought it would make a fun drabble too.

Good drabble Christopher. We had a thing called World Record Club which was basically the same deal. My folks were taken in and we ended up some shite vinyl records... all very worthy, but not necessarily what we wanted. A total con.

Thanks, Neville. We got really good stuff in the initial offering but we sometimes forgot to send those cards back and got albums we didn't want. It got out of hand very quickly.
I do kind of wonder, even though they're out of business, if they're going to pop up one day and make me buy the rest of the albums I was supposed to buy.

Yes, Christopher, your records are probably filed somewhere waiting for Spotify to liquefy... and then they’ll pounce. 😧

Hahahah ... that one was marvelous Christopher you had me to the end.

Thanks, Peter!
