From the Bumwad County Gazette:

Harv Gridiron, coach of the Bumwad High Brawlers football team for the past 55 years, helmed his last game Friday night ahead of his retirement. They handily beat the Pissville Pipsqueaks 42-0.

The team and the school pulled out all the stops for the 80-year-old Gridiron. A pregame celebration was enjoyed by all in attendance. And every game time ritual was observed, including dumping an ice cold keg of Gatorade on the coach.

Funeral services will be held for Coach Gridiron Tuesday at the Cheapbury Mortuary on County Road 13.

Farewell, Coach...

Next one by the look of it, Christopher. Can’t celebrate with a funeral drabble after all! Waiting with baited breath and a football rattle for your next! 😁

You know what? I wrote a Christmas drabble and set it to post on Christmas Eve. That's why mine is already showing 900. How stupid!

Thanks, Drew. That's a real ritual over here, the dumping of a keg of water or Gatorade on the winning team's coach, usually only at important games. There was an NFL team a few years back that won a playoff game and their coach had just come back from triple bypass heart surgery. Needless to say, they spared him that particular honor.
