Aokigahara is a forest on the northwestern side of Mount Fuji on the island of Japan. The forest sits on igneous rock that was once lava that was once magma housed beneath Mount Fuji, which evicted it in 864 AD.

Aokigahara has earned the nickname "Suicide Forest." Annual body searches have been conducted since 1970. 78 bodies were found there in 2002, 105 in 2003. Local officials eventually stopped reporting the number of bodies found.

They say the forest is haunted by yurei, ghosts of the suicide victims. The dense forest and porous lava absorbs their anguished cries for rest.

I don't know why I wrote this. I watched a video online about the forest and it was really disturbing. Some people go there to commit suicide, others are drawn by curiosity, only to get lost in the forest and perish. Either way, it's a serious waste of the precious gift of life.

Whether or not you know why you wrote this, I am glad you did. I have learnt something new with which I can wow my non-drabbling friends! 🙂

Thanks, Drew. That video left me rather disturbed. Not about the paranormal junk but that people actually go in there to commit suicide. It's such a waste.
