Jake Randolph Origins #269

by

Mongo brought me some coffee, and then he went onstage to announce The Beach Boys. They came on with matching blue and white striped shirts and launched straight into "Surfin' Safari." They sounded just like the record. I wasn't sure if that was good or bad.

The front door opened and in walked a man. He was short and pale and looked like he had the world on his shoulders.

He approached me. "Are you Jake Randolph?" he asked in a sheepish voice.

"Yes," I said softly.

"Mr. Randolph, I... I need your help."

Here we go again...

THE END

Well, that's it. I hope it didn't disappoint. Thanks to everyone that stuck with it.

Love the ending. No Christopher, you didn't disappoint one jot. This was a fast paced thriller that thrilled. I think you melded the flashback element extremely well with the 'present day' (metaphorically speaking) to ad context and drama. This has been a first class piece of writing and imagination...and thorough research, which is your speciality.
Time now for you to enjoy your holiday, but if I can make one request...while you're relaxing, try to sketch out the next Jake Randolph, because I'm hungry for more (and I won't be alone!). Great stuff. Thanks for the ride Christopher. :-)

Gosh! Thanks so much, Neville. I always appreciate the support.

I've already started planning the next Jake story. It's going to jump ahead a few years to the hippie era and Jake runs afoul of a cult of hippies being led by a charismatic but insane leader (loosely based on the Manson family.)

By the way, it's interesting to note that Jake never fired a gun in this story. He used a German grenade, but never fired a gun. I didn't plan that, it just turned out that way.

    Sounds great. I can't wait!

After that you'll have enough for a book. I'm looking at Create Space/Amazon as a very inexpensive way to self-publish. I would definitely buy a Jake Randolph compendium, so you've got one advance sale! :-).

Wow! Thanks so much. You were my earliest cheerleader on Drablr and I've always appreciated it.

Re gun/grenade...that's interesting. Led me to thinking that maybe there could be mileage in the fact that he's a peaceful guy at heart...reminded me of Alias Smith and Jones if you recall that - they never shot anyone...

Re Cheerleader... you write great stuff, so it's not difficult to support you. I'm just so glad you agreed to come back to Drablr. :-)

Thanks, mate. And yeah, I do remember that show.

I like for him to have the option to carry a gun, but I just thought that was interesting that he never fired a gun because I didn't plan it that way.

What I hate most about great stories... their end!

There is so much talent in Drablr and you one of the top notch writers.
Have fun on your holiday, Christopher. I hope the sun is warm enough and the breezes gentle.
