"I just can't believe it," Mr. Miller said like you would expect a father to when he'd just found out something dreadful about his daughter.
I looked down the hall. They were wheeling a gurney topped with an unconscious man toward the operating room.
"I wish I didn't have to tell you all this, Mr. Miller. But listen, we can get Blaze... I mean Susan, the help she needs now. It's going to be a long road ahead for the both of you, but it can be done."
I could see in his eyes he was at his breaking point...

I wonder who is on that gurney, playing unconscious. And the goons pushing him! Watch out, Jakey boy!

Neville, I put that in there just to give atmosphere to the hospital setting. But that would've been a great idea. Maybe I should be consulting you on these stories!

Sorry, Christopher. Don't want to come across as too much of a smartarse! (Although I come from a family of four irritating smartarse brothers according to my wife!) I'm just wanting to show you how engaged I am with the story. You're doing great as you are without any help from anyone! :-)

Thank you, Neville. I wasn't offended. That would have been a good idea. But it would've moved it in a different direction from where I was trying to end up.
Thanks for reading, Aspen. Jake's had his grave dug prematurely more than a few times and he's still above ground!
