When I was a kid, my dad would complain about the men on his construction crew. He would say, "Those guys go about everything half-fast."
I pondered this for a long time. Half-fast? Okay, that would be mid-way between slow and fast. Wouldn't that be normal speed? If that's the case then why didn't my dad just say "They go about everything at a normal pace" instead of cryptically using a thoroughly confusing phrase like "half-fast?"
I was well into adulthood before I finally realized that all that time my dad had been saying "half-assed."

Nice one Christopher. I was guessing right to the end (I try not to read ahead).

Thank you, Neville. Something triggered that memory so I thought I would turn it into a drabble.

Love this one, we all have little moments in adult life where we reflect on things that happened in childhood with a new perspective and the best of them is stuff like this! Loved it!
