The Polka Dot Brigade (6/6)

The Polka Dot Brigade #6

A group of people that had finally had enough of the bullying formed and they were immediately branded radicals and polka dot bigots. Poor Tom, who'd taken his own life after being hounded and harrassed, became their icon. They fought back, even in the midst of censorship, bullying and extreme violence.

They're still fighting today. Did the silent majority stay silent too long and give the Polka Dot Brigade too much time to get too powerful? Only time will tell.

This story was completely fictional. After all, something like that could not possibly ever happen in real life... could it?

Then a social-media campaign was launched to get everyone in the Polka Dot Brigade. Anyone expressing their distaste was immediately banned.

It moved from painting your homes with them to wearing clothing with them and tattooing them on your skin. They wanted buildings painted with them. They marched in Washington, DC demanding that the president paint them on the White House and re-christen it the Polka Dot House. They wanted monuments torn down and statues of polka dots erected.

Actors, celebrities and athletes all began worshipping at the altar of Polka Dot, saying anyone who didn't was intolerant...

So the bank eventually foreclosed on Tom's home and he was forced to relocate. But the Polka Dot Brigade wasn't satisfied with that. They doxxed him on the internet, claiming he was a polka dot bigot.

The police arrived and temporarily restored order, but as soon as they left the neighbors began plotting ways to force Tom to comply with their wishes. They called his place of employment and told Tom's boss that he was an agitator, that he was causing disharmony in their neighborhood. There were even rumors that he might be doing things that weren't legal.

Eventually, Tom's boss was inundated with so many complaints that he had no choice but to fire him. Tom tried finding another job but every place he applied to turned him down.

They'd heard about his troublemaking ways...

The neighbors tried to convince Tom that his house should look like everyone else's, and since everyone else wanted polka dots he'd have to comply. "That's democracy," they said.

"No," Tom replied, "that's mob rule."

Tom swiftly became ostricized in the neighborhood. Whenever he drove by his neighbors' houses he could see them whispering to each other angrily.

Ultimately, the neighborhood banded together and demanded that Tom paint polka dots on his house. He told them all to go to hell and went back inside. They began throwing rocks at Tom's house and breaking his windows.

He called the police...

The Polka Dot Brigade #1

Tom lived on a quiet little street in a quiet little neighborhood in a quiet little city. He resided in a little blue house at the end of a cul-de-sac.

One day his neighbors started talking about painting their houses with polka dots. Tom didn't like this idea and voiced his opinion. But the neighbors kept talking to others on the street, convincing them that all their houses should be uniform and conform to the same pattern.

As opinion on the quiet little street turned in favor of polka dot houses, Tom found his opinion to be unpopular...
