Luck rolling over

Odds and tail-ender #2

The Grand National 2019 is over. Tiger Roll, the favourite, won for the second consecutive year... with crap odds at just 4:1! Just as well none of us had backed it. Not even lucky girl.

Mrs H’s horse fell very early. I was genuinely sorry for her. She deserves all the luck she can get with me around.

My three weren’t mentioned. I’d won that bet. Well, that wasn’t strictly true because my 100:1 outsider was mentioned in the TV replay... as coming last!

But my daughter was winner with a second place each-way bet at 66:1. Still lucky!

Betcha!

Odds and tail-ender #1

It’s the big one today. The ‘National’. A family must. The stakes are high... a quid each way. The only time we engage in anything other than life’s great gamble. My daughter’s phone’s busy as everyone knows she’s the lucky one. She worries about it; what a responsibility!

I don’t want to jinx her, because I’m the unlucky one. My selections (yes, plural... multiplying my failures) are two well-rated low odds nags and a rank outsider. Mrs H always chooses just one. I don’t expect to hear the TV commentator mention mine at all. And that’s a good bet!
