Rowland's Story

Eyam # 3

She said, "Yes", when I asked her to marry me.
She was beautiful and I loved her dearly.
We talked and walked between our two villages and made plans.
I had heard that there was illness in her village and then Emmett's own sister died of something called the Plague.
It was painful to see her distress.
Then at the Vicar's request, the whole village isolated themselves.
We decided to see each other across the river in the Delph each evening.
It was Trudie who came with the devastating news that Emmett had died of the plague.
