Sauerkraut

Horst #3

Word of mouth, social media babble and positive critical review are one thing, but even the most creative contemporary German chefs realise television coverage is essential in raising their profiles.

The global obsession with food linked to the popularity of reality TV meant that chefs wishing to gain fame embraced the medium in gladiatorial culinary sudden-death shows voraciously consumed by Deutsche couch Kartoffeln. Against his better judgement, Horst was inveigled into taking part. The concept of ‘sudden-death’ appealed to him, but it was with obvious lingering bad grace that Horst received criticism.

One sauerkraut had the ratings booming...

Body und Soul

Horst #2

Horst could be very nice. He could gush and charm and make his diners feel a million Deutschmarks. His regular customers at the exclusive Berlin eatery were his friends, his reward, his mealticket.

But the other side to Horst was dark, hostile and ‘some’ said even murderous... but that ‘some’ never seemed to hang around the area too long. Rumours stopped almost as quickly as they’d started.

But none would deny the quality of the food he created, especially his sausages. He claimed that he put his soul into every single wurst.

Not strictly true... but they definitely had body.

Horst Cuisine

Horst #1

Horst was the most notorious chef in Berlin; his food über-contemporary, his restaurant bizarre and his personality explosive. But critics heaped praise on him, partly for the quality of his food... and partly through fear. And rumours rumbled about his murky past.

He specialised in making the ordinary extraordinary. Like his legendary sausages. He’d raised a German basic staple to the hautest of cuisine.

Caustic food critic Gerald decided he must try it himself. Horst spotted him. Horst didn’t like critics, particularly Gerald. He kept him waiting... and waiting. Gerald was apoplectic!

But the wurst was yet to come.
