I knew’st well the rumours, the falsehoods that they spake. But I yearn’d for thee close at hand when my time was upon me. Thy very presence calm'd me so.

They denied me that.

Trusting not thy ways. Though I realised 'twas thy herbs that had won me his favour and thine elixir that made him sire.

I heard their infernal chatter beyond the chamber door as my bellows began. Of the witchcraft and trickery cooked between us. I wanted a spell to still their tongues. But first, I needed thy wortcunning to aid the delivery of their next King.

I've learnt a new wort! A fascinating glimpse into the herbaceous world.

Ive read this a few times now and love it more every time - the use of language is superb and the air of threat hanging over it all is very well done :)
