Thump.
He turned and was out of his chair before he realised what was happening. Then the world turned to treacle as he started to run.
Thump.
But his legs, his damn legs let him down again. He was on his knees, almost crawling, willing himself forward. The ground seemed to tilt as he fought his way uphill.
Thump.
Up, off the floor. Move. Come on! You can't let this happen.
He called her name. So far away.
Thump.
He knew as long as he caught her before she hit the last step, his little girl would be all right.
