It was Harry's first night sleeping alone in his own bed. His mother always overprotective, insisted he sleep next to her much to his father's displeasure. Harry terrified of course nevertheless found sleep. First a scraping from the closet awakened him but he found sleep again... Then a thump from the armoire startled him half awake but he found sleep again... Lastly a creak from the toy chest brought him to full alert... Three shadowy figures stood above his crib. No features, no words, no movements. Prepared they were to take Harry where all sudden infant death syndrome babies go.

Harrowing and surprising though the twist at the end is (I was expecting evil ghoulies and ghosties not their intrusion on the cold hard evil of reality) I really loved this. Pulled me up sharply and stopped me in my tracks! Nice one.

I’m not a parent, but that last sentence still sent chills down my spine. Good work.
