Granddad loved the kids. He waited by the window and rushed out when they pulled up.
‘Come and give granddad a big hug.’
When mummy came to collect them, Emma was laying the table.
‘Can we stay for dinner, mummy. Granddad’s cooking in the kitchen.’
Mummy went to look. A pan was boiling over on the stove; she turned down the heat and took the lid off.
Granddad’s half boiled head stared back at her.
‘We remembered what you told us,’ said Johannah. ‘Time is taste. Would you like a cup of tea, mummy?’
Meanwhile the oven crackled and sizzled.
