I remember the summer of 1975. The war in Vietnam ended. Ford pardoned Nixon. But what I remember most of all was seeing John M. losing his guts when a dumper reversed over him. Trucks didn’t go ‘beep beep’ back then. A bunch of us were playing at the old station. It was being demolished. In those days kids messed around on building sites.

It was over before he knew anything.

Afterwards there wasn’t any counselling, but they did do a special Mass. We went; then we forgot.

The council finished the redevelopment.

They built a leisure centre on it.
