Sometimes you can catch one out of the corner of your eye. Tall, thin with menacing intent. They hide in the obscurity of the night, creatures of the shade, born of the dark.

They are known by many names. The bogeyman. Bloody Bones. Grindylow.

But always: out of the dark they come, to take you away god knows where. To do unspeakable things. So unspeakable, in fact, that no one ever speaks about it.

I remember the night Grindylow came for me. Swaddled in fear and encumbered by blankets struggling to get one hand free.

I flicked the light on.
