She was at the drugstore picking up aspirin when They clambered in, a gang of red-eyed boys with pipes and busted bottles. Their Leader was thirsty. Mom wouldn’t get out of his way, tried to subdue him. She saw good in Them. They ripped her apart.
After that, Their Leader wouldn’t leave me alone. “Christ, I was high, I didn’t mean it. What do we do now, little man? You know I’m sorry, right? God, say something, please?”
I wouldn’t look at him. He wasn’t my brother anymore. He was Them.

You had me going right until the end there Beck. Terrific denouement. That last three sentence line is great.
