Out West the sinking sun touched the ground and turned stone to gold. That’s what Pig believed.
Coyote laughed at him. “If that’s so, then steal the sun itself and make your own gold.”
He didn’t think Pig would take him seriously, but Pig built a staircase and lassoed it down. For forty days and nights, the sun was gone.
Coyote felt responsible for its absence. He tried to steal it back. But Pig killed him.
At last, Pig returned the sun on his own, not because the earth needed it, but because its constant light interfered with his sleep.
