I remember that terrible day from my youth when a group of us thought it’d be fun to throw pennies onto the railroad track and wait for the train to flatten them. Instead, when the train passed by, it flung the lethal coins back at us.

One shot into Susy’s forehead so hard it made a six-inch dent. One hit me in the stomach, and I could smell what I’d had for lunch that day. One hit Frankie in the wrist and just about severed his whole hand off. And one hit Clark right in the chest.

And bounced.

    I had no idea where the story was going until the end. Great final sentence.
