Her teenage son wanted lipstick, so she bought it for him. It was cheaper than a videogame and completely harmless. So what if it was sparkly red?

She figured he wanted to wear it. Maybe her favorite drag TV series inspired him, and he was coming out. Or maybe he was straight after all, and planned to give it to a girl he liked. Either way, she was proud.

The next day, a kid who she knew picked on him was found slashed in a public restroom. The killer had written a taunt on the mirror in sparkly red lipstick.
