“This way, Madam” Gendren the mage sighed heavily. The inspector eyed him as he shuffled past.
Gendren led her to a circular room, lit by flickering candles in a modest chandelier. Big wooden tables were cluttered with scrolls and books. More were stashed unceremoniously in a leaning bookshelf. Various coloured stains were dotted on pieces of unkempt furniture, and the floor, Gendren realized to his dismay.
The inspector began jotting notes on a pad, occasionally stopping to peer over her spectacles. Her expression was stiff.
Gendren’s face, however, was red and clammy. He knew he was for it this time.
