Thumb out, hitching from the North to London to see my cool mates when a vintage Rolls Royce pulled up. An old man beckoned me to hop in - was London bound. Yippee!

"Fabulous car!" (Couldn't believe my luck.)

"Do you drive?" He asked.

I nodded.

"I mean have you got a licence?

"Yes!"

"Well can you drive the rest of the way? I've driven from Scotland and I'm very tired"

I drove the magnificent machine to London. He said I'd only need 2nd gear.

'No way!' I thought, as I went through the whole box.

But he never knew.... zzzzzzzzzzzz!

I published this true story on Drablr 7 years ago and something on TV this evening reminded me of what was at the time an unbelievable stroke of luck. A university student at the time, my student housemates never believed me! “Yeah Nev.... we believe you! (hahaha!)” (But I knew the truth and that was what mattered!)

Hehehehe, nice feeling. I was, once upon a time and for a very short time 😁, driven in a Rolls Royce and oh boy, that feeling! gliding on the road.

I had another two memorable trips in Rolls Royces. The first one was at our wedding when I had hired two vintage Rolls Royces one for the two of us and the other for the bridesmaids. Ours was a 1932 RR Sedanca de Ville; a delight!

The other time was accompanying the Chairman of the advertising agency I worked at from a business pitch at British Rail, where he admitted to me that every time one does a new business pitch, “you die a little”. I knew what he meant; it had been very hard work! I still have artistic mementos from that new business pitch on my study walls at home. So it wasn’t so bad after all!
