To remind us of our holiday this year, we looked at the photographs. And there she was... Jetski Droogie, my little Ukrainian boat sitting like a publicity shot on the beach. How smart, how new she looked... amazing considering the adventure she’s had.

15 years ago, holidaying in Devon, I got a call from our younger son. He, his sister and their significant others were using the boat. It had been sliced up and sunk with them all in.

“You’re joking!” I disbelieved.

“Afraid not! We’re OK... but the boat’s definitely not!”

It’s 15 years later and who’d have guessed?

Hopefully you’ll soon be able to see Jetski Droogie (Jetski the 2nd) as my profile shot. If you look really really hard, you’ll see me swimming! Yes, we had amazing weather this year! The brand name of the boat is ‘Adventure’, one of which it certainly had 15 years ago.. and a few more since then too! It was made in Kyiv, Ukraine... and I love it! The two foot slash in one of the air tanks is still there, but hides itself well!

(Of course, for authenticity, its name is ordinarily written in Cyrillic)

It’s great to see you back, Frenchie. Hopefully your new part time working status you mentioned elsewhere means that we will see and read more of/from you soon. Mrs H and I are good thank you. We’ve had a good summer, culminating in our holiday in Devon. And we have another break in a few weeks on a different coastline where, despite having regularly taken dips in the sea there as a boy, I doubt if I will have the courage, despite the fact that we are staying almost literally on the beach... but you never know....🤔 I hope you are well too?

The first ‘Jetski’ was a more solid affair. It is still in the family, which pleases me as it was a ‘friend’ too. Getting sliced in two wasn’t really an issue for that old friend.

My dad used to have a green aluminum fishing boat that we would fish in when I was growing up. I have no idea where that boat is now, but I hope some father and son are making memories in it.

Thanks for sparking a bit of reminiscing.
