I played no part in the demise of the large white rat, but rather wanted to help it live on, in a manner of speaking. I wanted to preserve the creature whilst preserving my own nascent relationship with the girl I loved, by winning brownie points, or in this case, whitey points.
Carefully separating the glorious white pelt, I pegged it and cured it with borax, then sewed it into a lovely evening clutch purse, fully lined and blanket-stitched.
Long since ‘lost’, this token of my love was deemed too coarse. Of course, I’ve forgiven her, but not forgotten!

It was mentioned again only yesterday at a family party, which prompted this drabble. The family struggled to believe the lengths I went to for the lady, they thought I was telling tails... but she confirmed it once more, still completely unrepentant... and I still haven’t forgotten...

...and it’s all absolutely true.

I'm really sorry this happened to you, Neville. I truly hope she realises the value of your gift.
Not many forgive, which you have. I do certainly learn from your drabbles. The values that define your character. Thanks a lot, Neville!

She’s not difficult to forgive because I adore her. I met her when she was sweet sixteen... it was love at first sight. Nothing’s changed... and I must admit, a ratskin purse, albeit white and however lovingly it was crafted, was hardly likely to win a teenage girl’s heart... although amazingly it didn’t put her off me! As for my character, I just like a laugh!😂

A nice tale! Well, your lens of life matters which changes your perceptions and thoughts which aren't jaded. I've really got to learn a lot from this place!! Thanks again!!

Apart from doughnutology?! I doubt ;-)
You'll have been very encouraging and generous with your comments, couldn't have thought of more!

Imho, the commenting has equal status to the drabbles!

I remember you mentioning the rat purse before. Didn't your mother-in-law have something to say about that, or am I thinking of something else? Maybe I'm mixing up two stories.

Yes Christopher, I did feature it in an earlier drabble. Mother-in-law was, I believe, responsible for its disappearance because it couldn’t have run off by itself... and Mrs H remains vague as to its fate. Well remembered!
