My wife saw it first attached to the top of a bundle of hazel rods. Tonally camouflaged, looking casually you would miss it entirely, but this little feller took the risk and flapped its wings, to reveal orange brown specked uppers.

We’d never seen such before. With none of the graceful, pretty curves on the wings, these were ragged-edged, with mottled smoky-brown colouring when resting.

Excited, we rushed to the wildlife book for information. ‘Comma’ was its name due to a minute, white comma-like wing marking. Back to check for real. Eureka! Worthy of an exclamation mark!

You’re welcome, Jamie. Watch out for the other unusual visitor munching away at what passes for our lawn... the Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar, coming soon to Drablr!
