Unwelcome Visitors #1

by

Pretty they may be with their magnificent bushy tails, but with hazelnut trees to left and right, joined by a potentially pretty lawn across our garden, they are NOT WELCOME! How cutely they sit up and beg. The children love them... not me!

Not content to rob me of all my lovely hazelnuts, they come in and plant them in our lawn, to dig up later.

But yesterday, sitting on the roof ridge on our garage was something different... a squirrel that was completely black. A melanistic squirrel. Absolutely beautiful!

“Go on then, Blacky, help yourself... all the others do!

I like the squirrels that congregate in my yard. What I can't stand are chipmunks. Destructive little s.o.b.'s!

I saw my first chipmunks on holiday in Devon, in captivity. Cute little fellas, but I can imagine they aren’t so cute when you on the wrong side of them!

Yeah, they're cute but they chew on everything. They'll even climb under the hood of your car and chew through wires.

    I hate them!

Suspect it's unlikely I'll see a melanistic squirrel on Tooting Common but I'll be looking out for them now. Must have been something to see.

Tooting Common? He was a Pharaoh, wasn't he? :)

Hohoho! Christopher; you’re such a wag!

Jamie, there are one or two melanistic squirrels that have been seen in our village, but this was the first one I’d seen close up and at home. It looked most elegant.
