Mrs H desperately wanted a holiday staying on a beach... longing to step straight onto a sandy beach on waking, possibly taking an early morning dip in the warm blue sea. She’s a wonderful wife... I like to please her.

Quite separately, we love the brilliant BBC TV series Gone Fishing... only tangentially about fishing... much more about life. Two famous comedians fish, but the chat, the food and the places they stay delight!

One place was on a beach, overlooking the chilly grey North Sea. A former Victorian public toilet. October 2022, we’ll be staying there, spending our pennies!

‘Spending a penny’ is a euphemism in the UK for having a pee. It dates back to times I can remember when in order to get into the individual toilet cubicles, there was a payment slot on each door requiring ‘1d’ (one old penny) for it to open.

...anyone who knows the North Sea surrounding the Norfolk coast (like me who spent most family holidays swimming in it as a young lad), know that it is very far from clear, very far from blue... indeed the bluest you get is when you get out of it, shivering endlessly with teeth a-chattering!😬

Hope you both have a lovely time Neville
    - )Might catch up on the programme mentioned. Used to love Barry Normans' Film- Whatever year it was at the time series , but there was a feeling you'd enjoy his tangent regardless of the context

Thanks Jamie. It is quite a bit in the future though, October 2022... but it’s fully booked, probably because of Gone Fishing, until then!

I have little doubt that you will love Gone Fishing! The remarkably few fish actually caught, and so many fewer by Bob Mortimer, are always returned to the water pdq.... continued...

... The locations, the wildlife, including mayflies and other flying and non-flying creatures are many, the soundtracks eclectic and brilliantly put together to suit the mood and situations, the food is interesting, the locations fabulous and often quirky and the banter a combination of gently comic, philosophical and just fun. The fishing seems quite incidental and provides the setting for an almost poetic experience! You of all people Jamie should love it! Three series still on iPlayer I believe and forth screening now...

Yep, they have a book which is on Amazon UK. And on 16th Sept over here Bob Mortimer, one of the two comedians is launching his own book ‘And Away’ (which is what he and his co-presenter comedian say when they release the fish back into the water). These two guys, Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer, are funny, are good friends, are in their 60s and both have had, and recovered from, serious heart troubles in the past few years...

... Paul decided he would persuade his chum Bob to go fishing with him as the latter wasn’t taking his health problems too well and was becoming a bit of a recluse. Bob agreed, and some time later, having the right contacts, they decided to try out a single TV series, not expecting much... but 3 more series later it’s been a real hit. You can probably tell, I love it!
