Huddled together in the walled garden of stately home Luton Hoo, the audience was waiting. Portable chairs and blankets to keep out the cold were de rigeur, because this was England in the middle of August, on an English summer evening.

The peripatetic group of 6 strolling players solemnly gave their warning. “We can control most things, but not the weather. If it rains, we will all get wet.”

It did rain, we did need the blankets and planes taking off from Luton Airport drowned out the artists, but this was no nightmare; just A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Simply magic!

It's definitely magic if you can suffer through all that and still call it a good evening.

We did thanks Verity. A sterling performance by the small cast of 6 taking on multiple roles. We picnicked and drank a glass or three of chilled white wine and as the cold wore on, we felt rather mellow. The stately home was visited annually by the Queen and Prince Phillip for the pheasant shooting as the then owners were very long standing friends of Her Maj and HRH. My wife’s cousin (who’s not royal!) lives on the estate so a coffee there afterwards warmed us up!

...Our only royal connections were my former secretary who was Prince Charles’s girlfriend immediately before Diana... and my wife’s second cousin who played Princess Diana in the Netflix series, The Crown.

Christopher, it’s the English way of laughing in the face of adversity!

You'll must be very proud her portrayal in Crown. She is a wonderful actress.

She is very good in The Crown (series 4) indeed... even got a Golden Globe! And my secretary Anna was terrific too, when she dumped Charlie boy spectacularly at a Windsor Castle birthday bash!

She is truly very good. Her portrayal is widely appreciated. I wish my cousins were into acting!
