Nevilles Travails - St Petersburg

by

My wife wanted to visit Venice for its canals.... so I took her to St Petersburg for its own canals... at the end of May, perfect timing for the ‘white nights’. Our hosts were kind, taking us to various gems denied to ordinary travellers.

One such was Peterhof, Peter the Great’s summer palace on the Gulf of Finland. Closed most of the year, June 2 was the annual opening day. All of St Petersburg seemed to be there wandering round the myriad glorious golden fountains. The toilet queues were monumental, so the local menfolk kindly created unrecorded additional golden fountains.

    Haha! Why? Because we can!

I didn't know you'd been to Russia. I love the architecture there.

I’ve been to St Petersburg quite a few times. It’s a wonderful, beautiful city. Every time I’ve been I visit the Hermitage at the Summer Palace. It’s fanbloodytastic! The rooms and corridors are works of art and the works of art are, well, multitudinous! Whereas most art galleries have a few Renoirs, Gaugins, Reubens, Degas, etc etc, the Hermitage has rooms of them. Check them out online for free! And the Mariinsky Theatre/Ballet is wonderful!

I think I’ve written the odd drabble about my adventures in St Petersburg.... and they were quite fun, if a bit scary at times. The last time I went there it was to run a PR masterclass, which was relatively uneventful.

I'm sure I read them, then. It must've slipped my mind.
